The mixture was stirred at room temperature for 3 hours and then 2:1 ethyl acetate: 10% aqueous potassium carbonate (50 mL) added. The organic layer was separated, washed with brine, passed through a hydrophobic frit and the solvent removed in vacuo. The residue was redissolved in DCM (10 mL) and trifluoroacetic acid (1 mL) added and the mixture stirred overnight. The solvent was removed in vacuo to yield Intermediate 12 as a semi-solid slurry which was used directly without any purification. 1H NMR: (DMSOd6, 400MHz) delta 4.08-3.76 (2 H, m), 3.41 -3.27 (2 H, m), 3.23-3.14 (1 H, m), 1 .99-1.83 (2 H, m), 1 .59-1.43 (2 H, m). LC/MS: 1 17 (M+H)+.
