Hybrid organic-inorganic Cu(II) iminoisonicotineaTiO2aFe3O4 heterostructure as efficient catalyst for cross-couplings

Two novel mononuclear copper (II) complex catalysts were synthesized from a new tridentate iminoisonicotine ligand (HL) by coordination with Cu(II) ion, with (CuLaTiO2aFe3O4) and without (CuL) immobilization on TiO2-coated nanoparticles of Fe3O4. The ester moiety on the back of the ligand was utilized for immobilization on nanoparticles of Fe3O4. Both ligand and CuL complex were fully characterized by using alternative spectral techniques (nuclear magnetic resonance, infrared, ultraviolet-visible and mass spectroscopy, and elemental analyses). Different analytical techniques were used to identify the structural feature and morphology of the immobilized copper catalyst (CuLaTiO2aFe3O4) shell-shell-core system. The structural analysis revealed that the catalyst system is composed of both agglomerated nanospheres and deformed nanorods. Both copper catalysts, immobilized CuLaTiO2aFe3O4 and un-immobilized CuL were studied in heterogeneous and homogeneous catalysis, respectively, for Suzuki-Miyaura (C?C) and Buchwald-Hartwig (C?N) cross-coupling reactions of various heteroaryl halides. Both catalysts showed good catalytic potential under the controlled optimal reaction conditions. In contrast to the homogeneous catalyst (CuL), the heterogeneous catalyst (CuLaTiO2aFe3O4) showed slightly better catalytic performance. The characteristic obtains supported the catalytic potential of the current samples. Reusability/recycling of both catalysts was also investigated in C?C cross-coupling reactions. It was found that the homogeneous catalyst (CuL) could be only recycled up to three times, whereas the heterogeneous one (CuLaTiO2aFe3O4) could be reused up to seven times with good efficiency.

Although aqueous solutions are considered to be sustainable, environmentally friendly reaction media, their use is often limited by poor reactant solubility. In this Review, we illustrate the general concepts applied in such systems and illustrate them with selected examples, ranging from enzyme mimics, the preparation of conductive polymers and transition-metal-catalysed organic syntheses on the industrial scale to the chemistry of prebiotic systems.

Simultaneous enhancements of solubility and dissolution rate of poorly water-soluble febuxostat via salts

Novel crystalline forms of febuxostat (HFEB) salts were synthesized by liquid-assisted cogrinding with 2-methylimidazole (2MI) and di-2-pyridylamine (DPA) and characterized by Hirshfeld surface analysis, IR, 1H NMR, single crystal and powder X-ray diffractions, TGA and DSC. Two new HFEB salts featured different stoichiometries: 2:1 molecular ratio in HFEB-2MI and 1:1 molecular ratio in HFEB-DPA. For HFEB-2MI salt, two HFEB molecules lost one proton forming a singly charged hydrogen carboxylate anion H(FEB)2?, which interacted with the disordered 2MI cation via the N3[sbnd]H3A?O1i (i: ?x, ?y, ?z+1) and N4[sbnd]H4B?O1ii (ii: x, y+1, z?1) hydrogen bonds to form one-dimensional structure. For HFEB-DPA salt, one proton transferred from one HFEB to DPA, which were further connected by N4[sbnd]H1?O1 and N3[sbnd]H2?O2 hydrogen bonds to form an R2 2(8) ring motif. HFEB-2MI and HFEB-DPA salts exhibited increased equilibrium solubilities and intrinsic dissolution rates compared to those of HFEB in aqueous medium.

Clear correlations were found between speciation among dirhodium species and catalytic activity. With these results, novel cyclohexyl-derived catalysts were developed, affording good yields of macrocycles (up to 78%), at low catalyst loadings (from 0.01 mol% to 0.001 mola?%) and on a large scale (from 1 g to 20 g).
